SpaceX's Falcon Heavy rocket soars in debut test launch from Florida
The world's most powerful rocket, SpaceX's Falcon Heavy, roared into space through clear blue skies in its debut test flight on Tuesday from a Florida launch site where moon missions once began, in another milestone for billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk's private rocket company.
The 23-story-tall jumbo rocket, carrying a cherry red Tesla Roadster automobile into space as a mock payload, thundered off its launchpad in billowing clouds of steam and rocket exhaust at 3.45 pm (2045 GMT) at the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral.
Auto Expo 2018 commences in Delhi, with focus on 'greener solutions'
The 14th edition of the Auto Expo -- The Motor Show 2018 commenced in New delhi, offering visitors a chance to witness 24 launches and unveiling of around 100 vehicles.
The show has been accredited by the International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (OICA) and is being held from February 9-14, 2018 at the India Expo Mart, Greater Noida.
According to the organisers, the event will showcase a gradual transition from mere static display of vehicles to a consolidated package of "Entire Mobility Eco-System". The edition will also display latest technology enabled automobiles and greener transport solutions.
Winter Olympics 2018 kicks off in South Korea
The 2018 Winter Olympics, commonly known as the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games, commences in South Korea at the Gangneung Olympic Village.
The Games started on Friday and would continue over the next fortnight.
It is reported to be the largest Winter Olympics in history with 2,925 athletes from 92 nations taking part. PyeongChang 2018 will also award a record number of 102 gold medals.
It is the first Winter Olympic Games to be hosted by South Korea, which also hosted the Summer Olympics in 1988. The games will conclude on February 25.
ICC appoints Indra Nooyi as first independent female director
PepsiCo Chairman and CEO Indra Nooyi has been appointed to the International Cricket Council (ICC) Board as the governing body's first independent female director.
Nooyi will join the Board in June, 2018, to align with the term of the ICC Independent Chairman, following the unanimous confirmation of her appointment at Friday's meeting,
Antony Dominic sworn in as chief justice of Kerala
Acting chief justice of the Kerala High Court Antony Dominic was sworn in as the chief justice of Kerala on Friday. Kerala governor P Sathasivam administered the Oath of Office in the presence of chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan at Raj Bhavan.
Chief secretary Paul Antony read out the presidential order appointing justice Dominic as the chief justice. Justice Dominic is the first Keralite to occupy the top post in 17 years. Justice K K Usha, who occupied the chair in 2001, was the last Keralite to hold the position.
