Kochi: CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan’s son may soon find a way out of the legal tangle in Dubai with financial help from a Kasaragod-based businessman. Binoy Balakrishnan expects to wriggle out of a case against him by paying 10 lakh dirhams (about Rs 1.75 crore) to Hasan Ismaeel Abdulla Almarzooqi, who accused him of fraud.
Even though feelers have been sent to Almarzooqi, Balakrishnan may still face a couple of cases. Frantic efforts were on to bail out the influential businessman ever since authorities in the emirate put travel restrictions on him in relation to the complaint.
Though the CPM leader played down the allegations of his son as soon as the complaint was reported, the confidence waned after the travel restrictions. The development put the party leadership in the defensive.
