Kandanad: Thanka now has a new home. The new house has been built by CPM after the plight of the woman came to light.
Thanka, 55, who is deaf and dump, was living alone in a dilapidated house. The house was built under the leadership of CPM Udayamperoor north local committee's Kandanad north branch near the government LP school.
The death of her parents, Varghese and Mariamma, and her only siblings marriage and shifting left Thanka alone in her house, which was in a dilapidated condition. Tiles and laths fall from the ceiling now and then. A tarpaulin sheet was being used to stop rain water from falling into the house during monsoon. When CPM came out with a plan to help Thanka, several others too pitched in.
The 350 sq feet house with a bedroom, hall, kitchen and veranda was handed over to Thanka on November 4.
A committee led by chairperson Sheeja Babu, who is the panchayat ward no.3 member, convenor Ranjith Chacko and treasurer CK Shashil led the construction work.
