Thrissur villagers protest as killer leopard continues free run People block a road seeking capture of an a leopard that mauled a four-year-old boy to death in the Nadumala estate in Valparai.

Thrissur: Local people on Friday launched a protest demanding the capture of a leopard that mauled a four-year-old boy to death in the Nadumala estate in Valpara. The district collector and forest department officials were holding talks with the villagers after they blocked a road in the area.

The people demanded that a cage be set to trap the leopard.

The child, Seydul, son of an estate worker, was snatched by the leopard as he came out of his house with his mother in the evening on Thursday. The child's body was found, with his head severed, in the forest after a two-and-a half-hour search.

Six children were mauled by a leopard during 2011-12. The leopard was then caught with a cage and sent back to the deep forest. A leopard had attacked and subdued a donkey the other day.

The leopard's arrival has left the villagers in fear. Several families live in the estate area where the child was attacked on Thursday. They fear that the animal would strike again unless it is caught.
